Seminar Program

The Honors Seminar Program, founded in 1984, focuses on excellence in academics, allowing students the opportunities to take specialized classes that enhance their education. Students must complete the Honors Core Curriculum, attend a number of speeches and afternoon small-group seminars from distinguished guests (see link for more detailed information), and maintain a 3.20 minimum cumulative GPA. Students are admitted primarily during their senior year in high school, although students transferring to UTM are also considered.


NOTE: UT Martin Honors supports all study-abroad and exchange programs. Please contact the Honors Director to discuss options on how to participate in such programs and maintain your scholarship.

What You “Give”:

  • Complete the Honors Core Curriculum.
  • Attend a number of guest academic speaker presentations per year.
  • Participate in small group activities with at least one speaker a year.
  • Maintain a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA.

Scholarship Types in Honors Seminar

Chancellor's Award

Students entering UT-Martin with an average ACT composite score of 29 and a 3.9 or higher GPA will receive the Chancellor's Award of $3000 per year for four years as long as program standards are met. The student must maintain all requirements, and must qualify as a full-time student by taking at least 12 credit hours of courses per semester. Out-of-state students will also receive a waiver to cover out-of-state fees.


Dean's Scholarship

The Dean Scholarship is not an Honors scholarship, but its recipients have the option of participating in the Honors Seminar Program. The Dean Scholarship is awarded to students with an average ACT composite score of 26 and 3.85 or higher GPA. Dean Scholarship recipients are awarded a scholarship package of $2,000 per year for four years. To maintain scholarship eligibility, the student must maintain a 3.0 GPA at the end of every academic year. Out-of-state students who qualify for the Dean Scholarship will also receive the Explorer Out-of-State Scholarship.


Dean's Scholarship recipients who choose to participate in the Honors Seminar Program must complete the same academic requirements as Chancellor's Award recipients to be allowed to participate in all Honors-specific courses and functions.


NOTE: Dean’s Award students who fail to meet Honors Seminar requirements will be removed from the Honors Seminar program, but will still keep their Dean’s scholarship if they maintain a 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA.
